A note to new and returning visitors who were expecting to find Warrior's Way Foundation (an Arkansas non-profit organization) at this address. In two years of back and forth discussion with the IRS, we learned that simply providing a place for R&R for a designated group, no matter how deserving, is not an activity permitted under IRS regulations for a 501(c)(3). Simply put, public money cannot be used to help people rest and heal unless (1) they are part of a recognized charitable class that falls within the scope of 501(c)(3) exemptions, and (2) there is a substantial daily program of structured exempt activities. "Warriors" do not at this time fall within the definitions of a recognized charitable class, and our original goal of providing primarily R&R, then when people were ready, training in holistic healing modalities, does not meet the requirements for daily structured activity.

Discussions with the IRS were not adversarial. The restrictions on the use of public money are simply a fact of law that cannot be overridden by those who review applications no matter how sympathetic they might be personally. Changes to those regs must come from higher levels of government--not impossible to achieve but not quick either. We have therefore had to make a great many decisions about whether and how to proceed with Warrior's Way Foundation as originally conceived, and if there is a alternate structure we feel is useful that would also meet IRS regs. Although that discussion is still in progress, in the ensuing period of time we have devised and begun testing a program that will meet some, perhaps all of the IRS's guidelines.

In the meantime, the world, the wars, life and death go on--and our original goals have not changed, only the formats in which we can achieve them. We are therefore going to offer the original activities we envisioned under a "for profit" (but break even) structure as opposed to a "not for profit" structure, which means that with a few adjustments we can provide services and activities in the ways we envisioned and have those services be immediately useful and accessible. In the end we think the new structure will work well to allow us to make our particular areas of expertise available sooner rather than later. And it will free us to take all the time necessary to work out Warrior's Way Foundation as an acceptable non-profit organization with something useful to contribute to warrior life.

We are in the process of creating new and modifying old web sites to present the new information and structure, so please check back soon, or if you want more information now, call 1-888-369-4959 at StoneWind Institute for Mind Body Medicine.
