out of the box We like to think western medicine is the best in the world, and for trauma injuries as well as many other types of sickness, it is the best. The long term success rate in trauma injuries is quite good, better now than ever before; yet once vitals are stable, surgery over, rehab done, there often remains a lifetime of pain and dependency on pain killers. And while therapies and medications have been developed in the last thirty years to help warriors with the second most common consequence of warrior duty, i.e., wounds to mind, heart, and spirit, these therapies are not always available, not equally effective, and often require years of effort before there is quality of life again. And then there is the issue of availability, with budget and expense constraints in all areas of warrior support often forcing those who need help to wait long periods of time or go without altogether. At Warrior's Way we recommend that any warrior who is carrying the consequences of tough duty take full advantage of all the medical help recommended and available, but we also suggest you explore with us the best of the holistic modalities from across the world that have proven helpful in the quest for health and quality of life under difficult conditions.
In the last fifty years, knowledge of ancient healing methods based on different
perceptions of human illness and wellness than those of western medicine has come to America from the Orient and the Asian Sub-continent in the hands of those displaced by war, oppression, and political upheaval. Out of these other ways of knowing, other ways of being, come effective and powerful techniques for healing illness, injury, and stress that are simply not part of western thought. The appearance of these ancient ways in the West coincides with unprecedented advances in communications technology and information sharing. In this new "Information Age," knowledge, ability, need, economics, and technology converge to create a fertile climate for the revolutionary, cross-cultural integration of the old and the new on a scale never before possible. For the first time in the history of the world, all people, all nations, have access to the vast body of cumulative human wisdom. From this intersection of ancient experience and modern information has come exciting methods for harnessing the power of the human mind and bioenergy field in the quest for total health. The ancient modalities with their modern applications, now referred to as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), and as Mind Body Medicine by the National Institutes of Health, have gained the attention of research scientists, health care professionals, and millions of people in search of better health. The best of these methods have proven to be safe, effective, inexpensive, easy to learn, easy to use, and completely compatible with western medical treatment, so much so, they are now included as treatment options in a number of major medical centers in the US and elsewhere. In spite of this growing acceptance, however, the ancient ways of healing are still not readily available to the majority of people, including those in the warrior professions. Fortunately the most effective of these approaches are easily learned and used by anyone with the willingness to do so and are complementary with western medicine. In other words, you can use both traditional treatment methods and holistic methods since most modalities are completely compatible and integrative. Those of us fortunate enough to have access to western medicine and to holistic methods have the best of both worlds. It is our goal at Warrior's Way to make access to the most useful of this other world easily available to warriors and their loved ones. At Warrior's Way we help you move into these other ways of healing and moving on by opening a pathway for warriors and their loved ones to acquire the skills they need to heal themselves from now into the future. So when -- and if -- you are ready, we offer not only place and time but the opportunity and environment to think out of the box, to explore the powerful techniques of mind body medicine gathered from around the world and presented, for the first time in one place, in an integrated format designed for warriors and their loved ones. The courses offered through Warrior's Way are taught at StoneWind Institute for Mind Body Medicine, a short walk from the Warrior's Way residential facilities. With enrollment in The Foundation's Information & Opportunity Program, those in the warrior professions have the opportunity to receive unparalleled training in several integrated modalities at significant discounts available only through The Foundation. So if you have done all they told you to do and it is not enough, if you cannot get any answers or know there have to be others than the ones you've been given, if you aren't wounded but need a place to gather new tools, or to help your family cope better with the stresses of warrior life, we invite you to explore with us the holistic healing methods that come from other places and ways. Since everything we offer is compatible with western medicine--
